The government has announced a three-year partnership with Breast Cancer Now to improve access to breast health information and help women recognise possible signs of breast cancer.

The partnership will focus on improving confidence in checking for breast changes and understanding when to seek medical advice.

Research by Breast Cancer Now found that 29% of women in England who regularly check their breasts were not confident they would recognise a change. Among women checking less than once a month, 11% said they did not know what to look for.

The programme will place particular emphasis on women living in underserved areas and is the first partnership announced under the government’s renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England.

It will also include information for women following breast cancer treatment about possible signs of the disease returning or spreading. Healthcare professionals will receive additional training and resources to support conversations about breast health after treatment.

The partnership has been announced during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
